Alice V. (Leedom) Gieger transitioned peacefully from her earthly home to her heavenly reward on Tuesday, December 21, 2021. After living a long and full life of more than 95 years, Alice is now united with her Lord and Savior, and she has been reunited with her beloved Herman, Alice’s husband and best friend of 57 years.

Alice was born on December 12, 1926 to Joseph Leedom and Nora Holt. She graduated from Ambrose High School and lived and worked all her life in the Douglas area. During her professional career, Alice served as a bookkeeper and an office manager. She was the consummate administrative assistant before the term became popular.

Alice’s legacy will survive through the many lives she touched. She served as an important partner with family members and friends as they lived and struggled to raise their children. Demonstrating that it truly “takes a village” to raise good citizens, Alice provided motivation, direction and unconditional love to all.  She made everyone feel as though they were the most important person to her.

Alice was an asset to her community and a most willing servant in her church. She had been a member of The First Baptist Church of Douglas since 1948.

We, her family, thank God for giving us our Aunt Alice, who was such a wonderful role model. She demonstrated to us all how to live and die with dignity and grace. We would like to thank Dr. Sinclair and his staff for the professional care provided.  Thank you also to the leadership and employees of Vista Park Health and Rehabilitation for creating a safe and compassionate place where our Aunt Alice felt at home.

A graveside funeral service for Mrs. Gieger will be held on Thursday, December 23, 2021, at 11:00AM, at Harrell Grove Baptist Church Cemetery with Rev. B.J. Holliday officiating. Serving as Active Pallbearers will be: Caroline Cundy, Nathaniel Cundy, Hays Dixon, Perry Gieger, Bruce Morris, and Dawson Morris.

Due to the COVID-19, Sims Funeral Home Inc. will require all customers, guests, and attendees to wear medical grade masks at all times while in our facility, as well as social distancing. We apologize for any inconvenience this may cause, however the safety of our staff and those we serve are our primary concern. Masks will not be provided.

Sims Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
