Jimmy “Jimbo” Atkinson, age 70, of Douglas, Georgia, passed away on Thursday, January 27, 2022 at Coffee Regional Medical Center following a brief illness. Mr. Atkinson was born on June 27, 1951, in Coffee County, Georgia, to the late George Melvin Atkinson and Margie Louise McDuffie Atkinson.

 

Jimbo was was a beloved pharmacist in Douglas/Coffee County, where he touched many lives at Powell’s Drug Store.

 

Survivors include: His Wife; Wanda Atkinson, Daughter; Sarah Goodman (Patrick) of Tifton, GA, Stepson; Shawn Taucer of Douglas, GA, Sister; Jenny Lynn Vickers (Rand) of Douglas, GA, Brother; Joe Mac Atkinson (Vicki) of Douglas, GA,Three Grandchildren; Griffin Goodman, Paxton Goodman, Nicholas Mylander, Niece; Hali Varnedore (Mark) of Douglas, GA, and Two Nephews; Josh Atkinson (Ashley) of Jacksonville, FL, and Jake Atkinson of Flagler, FL.

 

The family will receive friends on Sunday, January 30, 2022, from 2:00PM until 4:00PM, at Sims Funeral Home.

 

Funeral services will be held on Sunday, January 30, 2022, at 4:00PM, at the Chapel of Sims Funeral Home, with Rev. Steve Atkinson and Rev. Marshall Adcock officiating. The interment will follow at a later date. Active Pallbearers will be: Josh Atkinson, Brooks Adcock, Steve Sapp, Ken Vickers, Will Brawner, Logan Miller, Kerry Van Moore, Patrick Goodman, Dennis Paulk, Steve Atkinson, Roy Powell, David Lott, Stanley Smith, Charles Davis, Vernon Nolan, Clarence Stewart, Don Brooks, Danny Paulk, and Gene Haskins.

 

Due to COVID-19, Sims Funeral Home Inc. will require all customers, guests, and attendees to wear medical grade masks at all times while in our facility, as well as social distancing. We apologize for any inconvenience this may cause, however the safety of our staff and those we serve are our primary concern. Masks will not be provided.
