Marilyn Bennett of Pierce County formally announced her candidacy for District Attorney for the Waycross Judicial Circuit Thursday night amongst her family and friends.

Bennett is an experienced trial attorney licensed in Georgia and Florida. In her 13 years as an attorney, she has tried countless cases ranging from homicides, crimes against women and children, armed robbery, burglary, thefts, drug crimes, gang cases, and traffic offenses in both Superior Court and Juvenile Court. Bennett is currently the senior assistant district attorney for Ware County.

The Waycross Judicial Circuit includes Bacon, Brantley, Charlton, Coffee, Pierce, and Ware. The District Attorney is the chief prosecuting attorney for the circuit in the prosecution of felony crimes in Superior Court. In Brantley County, the District Attorney also serves as the prosecuting attorney for their misdemeanors in lieu of a Solicitor-General.

Bennett said, “I am overwhelmed with the support of law enforcement, colleagues within the justice system, and our community in this endeavor. Through hard work, compassion, professionalism, and collaboration, we can make south Georgia a great place to live and where our children raise their families. I value your prayers and support as I work to become your voice in the courtroom as the next District Attorney.”

Originally from Mississippi, Bennett is an Ole Miss Law School grad. She is married to Pierce County native, Jim Bennett. They have 3 children and are active members of First Baptist Church. Bennett is a member of the Waycross Exchange Club and Waycross Bar Association, an organization for local attorneys.

Bennett is asking for your support and vote in the Republican Primary Election on May 24. Early voting begins May 2. To find out more about how you can support the campaign or learn more about Bennett, you can visit her Facebook page, Marilyn Bennett for District Attorney.
