On Friday, January 28, 2022, the Douglas-Coffee County community celebrated the groundbreaking for the Medical Institute of South Georgia, located at 810 College Avenue North in Douglas.

The Medical Institute of South Georgia is founded by Dr. Tracy McClelland and her husband Leroy McClelland. Dr. McClelland currently owns and operates Ycarte’ Health Career Center, a private post-secondary training facility designed to educate the community and provide fast, quality training in health care since 2006. Dr. McClelland’s business has grown exponentially since and has become an incredibly valuable facility for South Georgia. Ycarte Health Career Center has trained thousands of nurses and contributed significantly to the workforce needs of South Georgia.

Because South Georgia has been so greatly impacted by Ycarte’ Health Career Center, Dr. McClelland decided to create a nonprofit, 501c3 training institute, the Medical Institute of South Georgia, for which the Douglas-Coffee County community could contribute to the success of this facility and expand its impact even further. The Medical Institute of South Georgia will continue to provide training in programs such as Certified Medical Assistant, Phlebotomy Technician, Pharmacy Technician, and Certified Billing and Coding Specialist.

At the ground breaking celebration, Pastor Rueben Speight of Greater Destiny International Ministries prayed for the success of this institute and thanked God for the McClelland family and the blessing they have been on the Coffee County community. City of Douglas Mayor Pro Tem Edwin Taylor thanked Dr. McClelland for investing in the City of Douglas. Chamber of Commerce Executive Director Emily Courson thanked Dr. McClelland for all she does in service to the Coffee Community and in particular the Chamber of Commerce.

For more information, give them a call at (866) 384-8680.
