On Thursday, January 20, 2022, the Douglas Mayor’s Youth Council held its first meeting of 2022. The Council recognized January as Law Enforcement Appreciation Month and thanked the Douglas Police Department for their continued efforts with community policing.

The Youth Council member chosen to spotlight for January is Brody Grantham. Brody is the son of Samuel and Michelle Grantham. He attends Coffee Middle School and is a member of Middle School football team, Olympic weighlifting team, Honor Society and Chess Club. In addition to serving as a Jr. Commissioner with the Mayor’s Youth Council, Brody also serves on the Douglas-Coffee County Teen Court. Brody plans to attend college, play football and obtain a degree in Veterinary Medicine.

The Youth Council chose to acknowledge Rita D. Harper as the Outstanding Community Leader for January. Ms. Harper was selected for her efforts with the Douglas-Coffee County Teen Court program and her outstanding community leadership with youth in Douglas and Coffee County.
