Youth Council recognizes Anterius Paulk-Vickers, hears from SGSC

On Thursday, February 17, 2022, 6PM, the Douglas Mayor’s Youth Council (DMYC) recognized the February Outstanding Youth and Community Member and learned about educational opportunities at South Georgia State College (SGSC).

 

The Youth Council member chosen to spotlight for February is Meia Batten. Meia is a sophomore at Coffee High School and has been participating with the Mayor’s Youth Council for two years. She has been an active member with the Douglas-Coffee County Teen Court Program since 2019 and is an ambassador for the Know Your Worth Program. Meia attend Greater Destiny International Ministries with Pastor Reuben and Allyson Speight where she serves on the Youth Praise Team, Praise Dance Team, and Media Team. After she completes high school, Meia plans to major in Criminal Justice.

 

Jr. Commissioner Meia Batten and the Youth Council chose to acknowledge Anterius Paulk-Vickers as the Outstanding Community Leader for February. Mrs. Paulk-Vickers was selected for her outstanding contributions in supporting the children and parents of children with disabilities. She was also recognized for supporting the Ambitious Young Men mentoring program and advocation for the Miracle Field.

 

Following the monthly recognitions, the youth council received updates from DMYC Coordinator Dinitra Williams and community volunteer opportunities from City Clerk Wynetta Bolder, Mike Bazell (Ambitious Young Men Mentoring Program), and Latressa Moses (STEM 101). Special guest speaker, Dr. Ingrid Thompson-Sellers (SGSC President), gave a brief history about South Georgia State College and new bachelor programs. Meagan Day (SGSC Recruiter and Alpha Phi Omega Advisor), spoke about SGSC enrollment services and campus life.

 

Special thanks to Journey Wilkerson for providing the inspiring invocation and Coffee High School NJROTC for leading the Pledge of Allegiance.
