DPD officers arrest four on drug charges

Officers from the Douglas Police Department served two search warrants in different investigations that yielded four arrests on drug charges.

On March 10, 2022, the Douglas Police Department’s Crime Suppression Unit (CSU) executed a search warrant on a residence on East Jefferson Street as a result of a lengthy investigation stemming from multiple drug complaints. A subsequent search yielded over 4 ounces of methamphetamine, 14 grams of marijuana, and 3 firearms.

Melissa Bennett, age 53 of Douglas, was arrested and charged with trafficking in methamphetamine, distributing/possessing controlled substances within 1000 feet of a school, possession of a firearm during the commission of a felony, and possession of marijuana. Bennett was booked into the Coffee County Law Enforcement Center.

On March 11, 2022, the Douglas Police Department’s Crime Suppression Unit (CSU) executed a search warrant at a residence on North Chester Avenue as a result of a lengthy investigation stemming from multiple drug complaints. The search resulted in the discovery of 2.3 pounds of marijuana, 64 THC vape cartridges, approximately 12.5 grams of butane hash oil – also known as dabs, 10 bottles of cannabis infused syrup, 17 packages of cannabis infused edibles, 2 packages of psilocybin mushroom edibles, a 12 gauge shotgun, and a 1911 .45 caliber handgun.

At the time the search warrant was executed, Sabra Barber, 31, was located within. The residents and targets of the operation – Tobe Killgo, 33, and Ashley Ansel, 33 – were not on scene, but were apprehended at a later date without incident. All subjects were booked into the Coffee County Law Enforcement Center.

Shortly after Killgo and Ansel were arrested, a subsequent search warrant was executed on a vehicle in relation to this case. This search yielded the discovery of over 4 pounds of marijuana and 1 package of cannabis infused edibles.

Barber was charged with possession of marijuana with intent to distribute.

Killgo was charged with possession of marijuana with intent to distribute, possession with intent to distribute within 1000 feet of a park, 2 counts of possession of a firearm by convicted felon, possession of a firearm during the commission of a crime, and 18 counts of possession of a schedule I controlled substance with intent to distribute.

Ansel was charged with possession of marijuana with intent to distribute, possession with intent to distribute within 1000 ft of a park, possession of a firearm during the commission of a crime, and 18 counts of possession of a schedule I controlled substance with intent to distribute.
