Mrs. Verchel McKinnon McClendon, age 78 of Douglas, passed away Monday, March 28, 2022, at Vista Park Health and Rehabilitation Center in Douglas, following an extended illness. 

She was born in Coffee County on July 20, 1943, to Fred and Miriam Joiner McKinnon.  Mrs. McClendon made her home in the Douglas and Willacoochee areas, where she and her husband raised their family together, working as a waitress, and being a homemaker.  She had a strong faith and loved to worship as she attended Willacoochee Holiness Baptist Church and First Assembly of God in Douglas. Mrs. McClendon also enjoyed fishing, gardening and going on trips to the Smokey Mountains.  She was preceded in death, along with her parents, by her husband, Harvey McClendon. 

Survivors include:

Son:  Chris McClendon and wife Debra of West Green, Ga.

Daughter:  Alisha Cross of Pearson, Ga,

Sister:  Mary Campbell and husband Archie of Douglas, Ga.

4 Grandchildren:  Taylor McClendon, Lara McClendon, Will Fain (Rayven Tayo), and Marty Hines (Jacob).

4 Great Grandchildren:  Ian Fain, Isla Fain, Leigha Grace Crosby, and Ellie Kate Crosby.

Several Nieces, Nephews and other relatives also survive.

Funeral services for Mrs. McClendon were held Wednesday, March 30, 2022, at 3:00 P.M. at Relihan Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Marshall Adcock and Rev. Matthew McEachern officiating. Special musical selections included, “Go Rest High”, “Gathering Flowers for the Master’s Bouquet”, “I’ll Stroll Over Heaven With You”, and “I’ll Fly Away” all rendered by cd.  The interment followed in Mora Baptist Church Cemetery.

Serving as active pallbearers were:  Will Fain, Sherman Taylor, Bobby Taylor, Robert McClendon, Ronnie McClendon, and J.R. Campbell.

Relihan Funeral Home was in charge of the arrangements.
