Ashley Edward “Ed” Gillis Sr., age 82, of Axson, Georgia, passed away on Thursday, April 7, 2022 at his residence following an extended illness. Mr. Gillis was born on September 1, 1939 to the late Cleon Arthur Gillis and Ina Lou Hand Gillis Fussell.

 

 

Survivors include: His Wife; Simmeon Gillis of Axson, GA, Two Sons;  Ashley Edward Gillis Jr. (Debra) of Douglas, GA, Anthony Davis Gillis (Elisa) of Axson, GA, One Daughter;  Edith Lynda Gillis of Pearson, GA, Four Grandchildren; Vonda Crosby (Jay), Logan Gillis (Ashleigh), Jesi Weikle (Will), Erin Gillis (Chase Grantham), Eight Great-Grandchildren; Tyson, Layla, Bella, Hudson, Slade, Knox, Briggs, and Sawyer. He is also survived by several nieces and nephews.  Mr. Gillis was preceded in death by his Parents;  Cleon Arthur Gillis and Ina Lou Hand Gillis Fussell, and One Brother: Freddie Edsel Gillis.

 

 

The family will receive friends on Friday, April 8, 2022, at Sims Funeral Home, from 6:00PM until 8:00PM

 

 

 

Funeral services will be held on Saturday, April 9, 2022, at 4:00PM, at Stokesville Baptist Church with Rev. Leroy Spivey and Rev. Edward Matthews officiating. The interment will follow at the church cemetery. Active Pallbearers will be: Cleon Gillis, Mathew Cofield, William Weikle, Jay Crosby, Wade Tanner, Patrick Spivey, Chase Grantham, and Cray Grantham.

 

 

In lieu of flowers. the family requests donations be made to Stokesville Baptist Church, C/O Edith Lynda Gillis, 965 River Road, Pearson, GA 31642.

 

 

Sims Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
