The Keep Douglas Beautiful Committee held its first Great American Cleanup on Saturday, April 30, 2022. Approximately 50 volunteers rolled up their sleeves to help pick up litter and collect tires in the city.

“We were so excited to see how many came and supported our event,” says Keep Douglas Beautiful Board President Dinitra Williams. “We had a great event and hope to have more events once it cools off a little in the Fall.”

Four groups journeyed to areas in Ward 3 and collected over 100 bags of trash. ESG Operations and Keep Douglas Beautiful volunteers helped collect 20 tires for proper disposal and recycling purposes.

According to the Keep American Beautiful website, the Great American Cleanup is celebrating its 24th year and annually engages more than 500,000 volunteers and participants, whose work returns, on average, more than $100 million in measurable benefits across more than 15,000 participating communities.

Special thanks to everyone who supported and assisted with the Great American Cleanup – American Legion Post 515, Chick-Fil-A, Burger King, 4 Point Food Mart, Premium Peanut, ESG Operations, USA Discount, Mr. T’s, Save-A-Lot, Douglas Mayor’s Youth Council, Ambitious Young Men, Douglas-Coffee County Teen Court, South Georgia State College, Great Management Style LLC, Coffee High School, City of Douglas, and other volunteers.

To be placed on the volunteer list for the next Keep Douglas Beautiful event, call (912) 383-0277 or email cmikell@cityofdouglas.com.
