On May 9, 2022, the Georgia School Superintendents Association (GSSA) announced that Dr. Morris Leis, Superintendent of Coffee County Schools, will complete a three year term on AASA’s (The National School Superintendents Association) Governing Board.

In 2021, Dr. Leis was elected by the 180 member Georgia School Superintendents Association to complete a one-year term for an open seat. John Zauner, GSSA Executive Director, shared, “GSSA is proud to have Dr. Morris Leis, to represent Georgia superintendents at the national level in providing a voice to our positions on a variety of topics that potentially could impact K-12 Education in Georgia. He will hold a seat for a three-year term on the AASA Governing Board and provide an experienced, professional, and a representative position of Georgia K-12 education on this nationwide governing body. Dr. Leis will interact with Georgia’s U.S. Congress representatives to provide context to the current issues facing K-12 education.

“Dr. Leis has gained experience and respect through his previous and continued national service to K-12 education representing Georgia and we are proud to have him serve in this important capacity as a voice for Georgia’s superintendent professional association on the national level (GSSA)”.

Dr. Leis replaces Dr. Michele Taylor of the Calhoun City Schools who has been elected to serve on AASA’s Executive Board. AASA will pay for Dr. Leis’ travel to Washington DC in July to serve on the AASA Delegate Assembly and participate in the AASA Day at the Capitol by meeting with Georgia’s congressional delegation.
