Lawton Lamar Drew, age 85, of Douglas, went to be with our Lord and Savior on Wednesday, July 20, 2022, at Coffee Regional Medical Center. Mr. Drew was born on May 21, 1937, in Douglas City, GA to the late Loren Wadley Drew and Penny Hayes Drew of Douglas, GA.

                

 

 

Mr. Drew was a very important member of the Coffee County Community and he helped to shape the lives of so many into the men and women they are today.  He was part of the Coffee County school system for 35 years. He was very active in sports with the school and was a referee for 35 years. He was a volunteer firefighter for the City of Douglas Fire and Rescue for 50 years and put his life on the line to help people on countless occasions. He was the definition of a true Hero. Mr. Drew’s hobbies included hunting and model trains. He will be dearly missed by family and friends and his legacy will live on in the lives that he helped change.     

 

 

Survivors include: Wife, Sylvia Ann Drew of Douglas, GA; son, Lamar “Bud” Drew of Douglas, GA; daughter, Deana Drew (Robby) Roberson of Waycross, GA; grandchildren, Randy (Allison ) Drew of Douglas, GA, Dr. Stuart  (Catherine ) Drew of Youngstown, OH, Dr. Aaron  (Shelby) Drew of Douglas, GA, Roman  (Allison ) Roberson of Waycross, GA, Summer  Roberson of Waycross, GA; great grandchildren, Dillon Drew, Alyssa  Drew, Addison Drew, Ansley Drew, Henry Drew, and Hadley Roberson. Mr. Drew was preceded in death by his father, Mr. Loren Wadley Drew and mother, Mrs. Penny Hayes Drew.

The family will receive friends Friday, July 22, 2022 from 6:00PM to 8:00PM at Sims Funeral Home.

 

 

Funeral ceremonies will be held on Saturday, July 23, 2022, at 2:00PM, at the Chapel of Sims Funeral Home with Rev. Kevin Bounds officiating. Interment will follow at City of Douglas Cemetery.

 

 

Sims Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.
