Charles Hampton Byrd, age 74, of Douglas, Georgia, passed away on Thursday, August 18, 2022. Mr. Byrd was born on March 21, 1948 in Coffee County Georgia to the late William Charles Byrd and the late Lois McMillan Byrd.

 

 

Survivors include: Son: Kyle (Shay) Byrd of Douglas, GA, Daughter: Leighan (Keith) Waters of Douglas and Statesboro, GA, Three Grandchildren: Carter Luke Byrd, Charles William Byrd and Alaina Grace Waters, Sister: Dorothy Cliett of Denton, GA, Brother-in-law: Kenneth Hursey, of Virginia. He is also survived by a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. Mr. Byrd was preceded in death by his uncle and aunt by whom he was reared: Stanford (Pa) and Margaret (Ma) Sears, Wife: Ida Ann Hursey Byrd, One Brother: Bryan Sears, Three Sisters: Nellie Chaires, Helen Henderson and Geraldine Johnson and a host of other family members and lifelong friends.

 

 

The family will receive friends Saturday, August 20, 2022 from 6:00PM to 9:00PM at Sims Funeral Home.

 

 

Funeral services will be held on Sunday, August 21, 2022 at 3:00PM at Tanner Baptist Church in the Social Hall with Rev. Buddy Jordan and Rev. Larry Stone officiating. Music provided by Dawson Adams, Rev. Larry Stone, Kim Tatum and Karen Eldridge. 

 

 

Interment will be Monday, August 22, 2022 at 11:00AM at Tanner Baptist Church Cemetery with Rev. Jimbo Steed officiating.

Active Pallbearers include: Chris Hutchison, Luke Mizell, Billy Jack Moxley, Greg O’Steen, Charlie Purcell, Walter Sweat, Thad Thomas, Steve Vickers.

 

 

Honorary Pallbearers include: Jake Mizell, Gary Purvis, Michael Spikes, Eustace Wright, Friends from Baker Bros., Davis Tire, Huddle House on 441, JMC Tire, Daddy’s Girls from Malcolm’s Drug Store, Dr. Lydia Tanner and Staff, Current and Former Employees of General Telephone, Alltel and Windstream, Members of Harrell Grove Baptist Church and Tanner Baptist Church.

 

 

Due to COVID-19, Sims Funeral Home Inc. highly encourages all guests and attendees to wear face masks and maintain social distancing at all times while visiting our facility, and highly encouraged at our services outside of our facility.
