The City of Douglas along with several community organizers will conduct the Taking Back Our Families and Community March on Saturday, October 15, 2022.  The purpose of the march will be to bring awareness to drugs, gangs, and gun violence in our community.

“We want to see everyone take part in this march for our community,” says March Organizer and City Commissioner Kentaiwon Durham. “We have to show unity in our community in order to combat the drug issues, gangs and gun violence that has occurred recently in our community. We have to take our community back!”

The Taking Back Our Families and Community March will take place at 9 AM on October 15 beginning at George Washington Carver (GWC) Shopping Center which is located on South Gaskin Avenue. The march will continue straight north on Gaskin Avenue and then turn left (west) on Bryan Street. The March will have a rest stop and program at Central Square Complex. Following the program, the march will resume on West Bryan Street to South College Avenue. March will turn left (south) onto College Avenue until West Magnolia Street, turn right (west) then left (south) on to Grady Street crossing GA Hwy 158 onto Brooks Avenue. March will continue on Brooks Avenue turning left (east) on College Park Drive. March will continue east on College Park crossing Peterson Avenue and Madison Avenue until arriving back at GWC Shopping Center.

The program that will be held at Central Square Complex will include speakers from the City, County, mental health professionals, and family members of victims. The public is invited to participate in this peaceful march. For more information, please contact the City Manager’s office at (912) 389-3401.
