Mr. Lewis Wayne Fussell, age 78 of Douglas, passed away peacefully in his sleep Sunday morning, October 9, 2022 at the home of his daughter, Mandy Lynn Fussell in Putney, GA.

Mr. Fussell was born November 9, 1943 to the late Rev. Roscoe Fussell and the late Helen Louise Veal Fussell. Other than his parents he was preceded in death by a sister: Martha Faye Fussell, a brother: Jimmy Raye Fussell and a niece: Selina Faulkner.

Mr. Fussell, a native of Coffee County, was a former resident of Putney, GA . He proudly served his country in the United States Air Force. Then he started a 33 year career as an engineer with Norfolk Southern and he was also a proud member of the Brotherhood of Locomotive Engineers.

When he wasn’t driving the train, he could be found with a chain saw in hand, loading his pulpwood truck. He held his single engine pilot’s license. Then later in life he went to work hauling pecans all over South Georgia. But he was the happiest when he was on a tractor or burning brush piles. It didn’t matter what kind of tractor as long as it was a tractor! And it didn’t matter what size pile; if it was there, it needed to be burned. As a matter of fact, he spent his last two days on this earth on his newly acquired “new” (old) tractor mowing!

Mr. Fussell was a member of First Baptist Church of Putney and Calvin Key Sunday School Class.
