Coffee County Young Farmer members recognized at Region Caucus

The Georgia Young Farmers Association held their annual South Region Caucus on Monday, November 7 in Moultrie at the Sunbelt Ag Expo. Their the GYFA recognized numerous award recipients for the South Region including Young Beginning Producer, Outstanding Chapter, Young Ag Professional and Chapter President to name a few. Coffee County Young Farmers brought home two awards for their members, Jessie Sellars and Jordan Farabow.

 

 

Jessie Sellars was named the South Region Finalist for Young Ag Professional Award .The purpose of the Young Ag Professional Award is to encourage young men and women who are in the beginning or developmental stages of their agribusiness careers or endeavors. The goal is to provide recognition to those who are showing signs of growth and knowledge both professionally and personally in the field of agribusiness. 

 

 

The award application is thorough in which the applicant has to discuss their agribusiness, educational and community activities. Jessie is co-owner of the family owned business, Blue Ribbon Show Supply that is an authorized Weaver Leather Livestock Show Supply dealer. They carry a full line of show and daily care supplies for all species of livestock and have been directly involved with showing and the livestock industry since 2003. Their interest, knowledge, and experience allows them to provide exhibitors with the tools they need to succeed both inside and outside of the show ring. They are dedicated to bringing their clients quality, innovative products that will help their animals look their best in the ring and will have them on the right track to the backdrop. Jessie and husband Jamie are extremely involved within the Coffee County Young Farmers as well as active members of Victory Chapel Baptist Church.

 

 

Jordan Farabow, owner of Farabow Angus, was recognized as the finalist for the Young Beginning Producer Award. The purpose of the Young/Beginning Producer Award is to encourage young men and women who are in the beginning or developmental stages of their agricultural careers or endeavors. The goal is to provide recognition to those who are showing signs of growth and knowledge both professionally and personally in the field of agriculture. Farrow Angus is a family owned operation that focuses on raising quality Angus cattle. What started as a small registered herd of 10 bred cows bought from Yon Family Farms back in Fall of 2013 has now grown to over 150 head of brood cows (90 commercial and 60 registered cows).  

 

 

Farabow Angus has increased the use of artificial insemination and embryo transfer over the last 5 years. These advanced technologies have helped them to advance the genetic makeup of their herd and provide their customers with a strong and proven product. Currently, Farabow Angus markets 20 registered Angus bulls a year private treaty and a select group of top of the pen commercial heifers. Jordan also grows a variety of row crops consisting of approximately 75 acres of corn, 100 acres cotton, and 150 acres of peanuts annually. These byproducts are used in feeding their herd and the development of their bulls and females. The bulls are developed on a forage based diet and have been developed with the commercial cattlemen in mind! Jordan and wife Jessica are both very active within the Coffee County Young Farmers Association and are both active members of Pridgen Baptist Church.

 

 

Each of these Young Farmer members, will represent Coffee County and compete for their respective state title at the Georgia Young Farmers Convention held in Jekyll Island in January 2023.
