The Douglas Coffee County Chamber of Commerce is pleased to announce Walter “Huck” Huckaby is the Grand Marshal for the 58th Annual Festival of Lights Christmas Parade. The parade is scheduled for Saturday, December, beginning at 6 pm in downtown Douglas. “Believe!”, this year’s theme, comes from Landon Tanner, son of Drs. Greg and Lydia Tanner of Nicholls. The theme and grand marshal are chosen by the Chamber Board of Directors.

Huck is the perfect person to lead this year’s parade. He has always believed in the youth of Coffee County and has always been a huge supporter of youth athletics. He has touched the lives of thousands and thousands of young people in Douglas and Coffee County.  Huck has made a huge impact in this community for decades and has impacted the paths lives have taken.  Most of the tales told about Huck give us a good laugh but all of them give insight into his character, integrity and leaves one respecting him even more.

One consistent thread that is woven into every story told is that it didn’t matter where a child came from, who their parents were, what race or gender, socio-economic status, aspiring athlete or not, Huck loves, encourages, teaches, and gives his undivided attention. He believes in our youth!

Registration for the Christmas Parade will continue through November 28, 2022. On Saturday, December 3, festivities will begin at 6:00pm when the Annual Festival of Lights Parade will light up Peterson Avenue and make its way from the Courthouse to South Georgia State College. Registration forms and rules can also be picked up at the Douglas-Coffee County Chamber of Commerce located at 114 N. Peterson Avenue. For more information about or an application for the Festival of Lights Christmas Parade, please call (912) 384-1873 or email us at schilders@douglasga.org

And don’t miss the Annual Tree Lighting Ceremony Friday, December 2 at Atkinson Plaza. Mayor Tony Paulk will be there to light the giant tree and CHS Chorus will be singing Christmas Carols beginning at 5:30. There will be sweets and hot drinks available for purchase from Pearl, A Cottage Makery and Project Search Pop Up Coffee Shop. Santa and his elves will be there for pictures and face painting.

Immediately following the tree lighting ceremony at the Pocket Park on Madison Avenue, Smile Doctors is hosting a free outdoor movie. Bring your chairs and blankets and enjoy “The Polar Express” at 7:30pm. For more information about all the Christmas in Coffee activities, please call (912) 384-1873 or email us at chamber@douglasga.org
