Hawks defeat Florida Gateway, Hart named GCAA Player of the Week

South Georgia State College’s men’s basketball team pulled away in the second half Saturday afternoon to defeat Florida Gateway College 80-55. In addition, the Georgia Collegiate Athletic Association has named SGSC’s Carlos Hart as the Division I Men’s Basketball Player of the Week.

 

 

The Hawks (7-3) took advantage of a strong defensive performance in Saturday’s win. SGSC held Florida Gateway College to 27 percent shooting and forced a total of 36 turnovers. Florida Gateway College made only 17 shots the entire game.

 

 

Hart led the Hawks with 17 points, seven rebounds, six assists, and three steals. Keith Lamar had 13 points, 11 rebounds, and six blocked shots. Jacob Crockett finished with 10 points.

 

 

Hart averaged 16.5 points, 6.5 rebounds, four assists, and two steals in wins over Reinhardt University (JV) and Florida Gateway College to receive the Player of the Week honor. A 6’6 sophomore from Miami, Fla., Hart is averaging 19.7 points, 6.9 rebounds, and 3.4 assists for the season. He is currently in the top five in the GCAA in the following categories – free throw percentage (3rd – 84.6 percent), offensive rebounds (3rd – 27), defensive rebounds (4th – 42), total rebounds (3rd – 69), steals (4th – 22), and points per game (2nd – 19.7).

 

 

SGSC will continue its current homestand Wednesday, Dec. 14 in Waycross against Florida State College-Jacksonville. Tip for the Dec. 14 game is set for 7 p.m.

          

 

General admission to all regular season home games is five dollars with children five and under admitted free.
