Several individuals will bring in the new year while in the Coffee County Jail after the court denied their release during the last bond hearings this year.
While the majority of the individuals on the calendar were denied bond, Judge Andy Spivey granted several of the motions, with some of the defendants also entering pleas to their charges.
One of the defendants who was denied bond made headlines in July after he was arrested on a rape charge is Kenneth Fritzges. However, after hearing the evidence in the case, a grand jury handed down four additional counts of incest and one count of aggravated battery.
According to an incident report obtained by DouglasNow following Fritzges’ arrest, deputies with the Coffee County Sheriff’s Office were informed of allegations involving the crimes on July 18. An individual reported that Fritzges had told him about the acts and wanted to turn himself in. When deputies arrived at the suspect’s home later that day, he was waiting for them in the driveway. He has been held without bond in the Coffee County Jail since his arrest.
A man arrested last month, Bobby Reavis, on four counts of theft, allegedly committed the acts once per year from 2018 until 2021. He is charged with four counts, with the offenses allegedly occurring in December 2018, October 2019, May 2020, and June 2021.
According to copies of one of the arrest warrants, Reavis is accused of stealing cargo trailers. Warrants were taken out on November 11, and he has been behind bars since.
A Sylvester man was denied bond on drug charges after he was allegedly found to be in possession of a quantity of methamphetamine in October by a Douglas Police Department officer. Due to the amount of the suspected drug, the suspect, Horace Everson, was booked on charges of trafficking cocaine, in addition to possession of a firearm or knife during the commission or attempt to commit certain felonies, possession of marijuana, and a brake light/turn signal violation.
In Georgia, possessing more than 28 grams of cocaine is considered trafficking.
Other defendants who were denied bond included the following: Franco Betancourt – aggravated child molestation (reconsideration); Je’kel Wilmer – possession of marijuana weighing more than an ounce and fleeing or attempting to elude a police officer; Paisley Mitchell – making a false statement (2x); Jenell Moody – possession of a controlled substance with the intent to distribute crack cocaine and possession of a schedule II controlled substance: alprazolam; Tyler Morgan – burglary in the 2nd degree; Angel Howell – possession of methamphetamine; Brandon Earl Williams – possession of methamphetamine, possession of a controlled substance (4x), driving while license is suspended and traffic violations and Marteze Turner – possession/distribution of marijuana, possession of a controlled substance, DUI, open container, failure to report an accident with injuries, failure to report striking a fixed object, and driving too fast for the conditions.
Those who were granted a bond include: John Denson – aggravated assault (2x); Gregory Bryant – printing a fictitious check (4x), possession of tools for commission of a crime, forgery in the 3rd degree (2x) and forgery in the 4th degree (2x); Stephanie English – possession of methamphetamine or amphetamine; Fedro Popo – trafficking controlled substances, fugitive from justice, and giving a false name/birthday/address to law enforcement officer; Farah Carter – possession of methamphetamine and possession of a controlled substance (2x); Zacheyus Venisee – violation of the Georgia RICO Act, forgery in the 3rd degree (5x), financial transaction card fraud (5x), financial card transaction theft, and identity theft (4x); Michael Dees – possession of methamphetamine, Ellis Robertson – possession of methamphetamine and possession of a controlled substance (2x); Dylan Grover – sale of a controlled substance and possession of methamphetamine with the intent to distribute and Billy Jean Spell – possession of a controlled substance, theft by shoplifting, and willful obstruction of a law enforcement officer.
