Tuesday, December 27, 2022, the Coffee County Sheriff’s Office and the Georgia State Patrol apprehended Dejon Fussell, 22, who was wanted in connection to a September shooting incident in Baymeadows.

According to officials with the Coffee County Sheriff’s Office, detectives responded to an address in the subdivision on September 3 around 1:30 a.m. in reference to reports of gunshots being fired. In the CCSO release, officials stated that Parker Lee Hines arrived at the location in a vehicle occupied by three others then got into a fight with Devon James Mack. Mack hit Hines in the head with a handgun and Hines fled the residence. Mack then confronted the other three individuals who were still in the vehicle.

Officials reported that the vehicle’s occupants left the property but returned later. As the vehicle was passing the residence, Mack and a passenger in the vehicle, identified as Fussell, opened fire on each other. As a result, bullets struck several homes in the area. A report from the incident states that while investigators were in the area, officers found Hines at the intersection of East Baymeadows Drive and Kirk Road “shirtless and bleeding from his head.”

When the deputy spoke to Hines, he claimed his cousin, Mack, “went crazy and hit him in the head with a pistol.” Hines also stated there were four individuals in a black Dodge Charger that had a “shoot out” with Mack.

The complainant who reported the gunshots said that he had been on a boat with Mack and one of his family members earlier that day, and as they were coming in, Mack “received a text from Hines asking what he was doing.” He also said that Mack told him he had to be at the boat ramp at 10:30 p.m. Shortly after, according to the report, Hines showed up at the residence “appearing to be pale with glassy eyes.” He stated that Hines and Mack went outside to talk, with Hines then “running through the house with blood coming from his head and then out the back door.” Mack allegedly came inside “very aggressively” and asked where Hines was, then went back outside. The complainant said he heard several gunshots and that Mack came inside and asked where the keys were to a vehicle. He reported that Mack also said “someone was going to die tonight” and that it was “not like Mack to come to his residence.”

He reportedly said that Mack had been acting differently since they got off the boat and that Hines was heard saying he “messed up” while speaking to Mack outside. A female witness stated that the two had a heated argument and that she tried to bring Mack inside, but he somehow got behind her, “hiding behind her.”

According to the woman, as she was grabbing Mack, Hines ran inside the house and she then saw a dark-colored car with 4–5 individuals inside. She also claimed to have seen Mack hit Hines with something, heard several gunshots at one point, and reiterated the complaint’s claim that Mack said “someone was going to die” that night while pointing a gun at his head.

At the time, officials stated that Mack, Hines, and two other individuals in the vehicle were taken into custody. Ultimately, Mack was charged with aggravated assault and four counts of reckless conduct. Officials also stated that Fussell was wanted on an aggravated assault charge but was still at large.

Officers arrested Fussell on December 27 and booked him on several counts, including aggravated assault and four counts of reckless conduct. He was also charged with DUI, giving a false name to law enforcement, driving while a license was suspended or revoked, possessing an open container, and three other traffic citations.

A copy of Fussell’s warrant states that he assaulted Mack with a rifle and discharged a firearm into four residences in Baymeadows.

At this time, Mack and Fussell are both being held in the Coffee County Jail.
