A Coffee High student and teacher have both been recognized for excellence for their work in the Business & Technology pathway. Student Katelyn Davis earned a perfect score on the Microsoft Word (Office 2016) exam while teacher Kelly Gilliard was named one of the Outstanding Microsoft Word (Office 2016) Educators for 2022.

During each course of the Coffee High School Business & Technology pathway, students have the opportunity to become Microsoft Office Specialists in Word, Excel, and PowerPoint. Students have the opportunity to achieve industry-recognized certifications while still in high school. This opportunity provides industry-leading assessments of skills and knowledge through project-based testing, giving students real-world exercises to assess their understanding of Microsoft Office. These certifications can be added as skills on resumes to help students stand out when applying for jobs.

This past fall, all of the students enrolled in the Introduction to Business & Technology courses prepared for and took the Microsoft Word (Office 2016) certification exam. A total of 40 students became certified. One of those students, Katelyn Davis, scored a perfect score of 1000 and placed in the top three best-performing students in the state. In addition, all of the students’ scores combined helped Coffee High School place third overall in the state of Georgia for Microsoft Word (Office 2016).

Kelly Gilliard, who teaches all courses under the Business & Technology pathway, was named one of the Outstanding Microsoft Word (Office 2016) Educators for 2022. The Coffee County School System is very proud of the achievements of all of these individuals and are excited about the opportunities students will have to become certified this spring.
