Judith Ann Cotney Hutcheson, 79

Mrs. Judith Ann Cotney Hutcheson, age 79 of Douglas, passed away late Wednesday evening, January 25, 2023 at Pruitt Health Nursing Facility in Savannah following an extended illness. Mrs. Hutcheson was born July 17, 1943 to the late A. D. Cotney and the late Thea Dunn Cotney. Other than his parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Donald Charles Hutcheson. 

 

 

Mrs. Hutcheson was born in Prattville, AL, but had lived in Roanoke, AL for a number of years. She had also lived in Coffee County for many years. Mrs. Hutcheson was employed by the Coffee County Board of Education for 30 years (1966 until 1996) as an elementary math teacher at Westside and Eastside Elementary Schools along with West Coffee Middle School. She was a member of St. Illa Baptist Church. 

 

 

Survivors include: 

 

 

1 Daughter: Donna Merritt and husband Don of Richmond Hill, GA 

 

 

1 Brother: Don Cotney and wife Cherri of Athens, GA 

 

 

1 Sister: Kay Haynes and husband Russ of Fairhope, AL 

 

 

2 Grandchildren: Connor Merritt and Catherine Merritt both of Richmond Hill, GA 

 

 

Several Nieces, Nephews, Cousins and Many Friends 

 

 

The family will receive friends on Friday, January 27, 2023 from 6:00 to 8:00 PM at Ricketson Funeral Home. 

 

 

The funeral service will be held Saturday afternoon at 3:00 PM at Ricketson Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Terry Reagin officiating. The interment will follow at Douglas City Cemetery. 

 

 

Active Pallbearers for the service will be: Kory Grantham, Steve Sellers, Mickey Spain, Ryan Sellers, Mitch Lewis and Robert Sprinkle. 

 

 

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to St. Illa Baptist Church. 

 

 

Ricketson Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.
