Douglas/Coffee County supports World Teen Mental Wellness Day

World Teen Mental Wellness Day is observed across the globe on March 2 every year. It is a day that aims to raise awareness about the mental health issues that teenagers deal with. 

 

 

This day is about educating everyone and de-stigmatizing something that is becoming increasingly common. 

 

 

Coffee High School junior Ethan Kramer has created the motto “Today will be better” to remind us all to never give up, every day is brand new, and no one should feel as though they need to hide their expressions. He is spear heading a campaign for Douglas and Coffee County to bring broader awareness to our community.

 

 

There is a whole generation of teens who are dealing with mental health challenges brought on by the pandemic. Being an adolescent, facing pressure and stress from just about every angle can be extremely overwhelming. Hundreds of teens today feel helpless, unsupported, and alone – but they shouldn’t.  Every teen should know that it’s okay to not be okay, every teen should be able to wake up each morning and know – today will be better.

 

 

Funds from all local events will be donated to NAMI Georgia (National Alliance on Mental Illness) a non- profit mental health organization, dedicated to support communities in Georgia. NAMI’s mission, to help create communities where those affected by mental illness may experience a sense of hope, recovery, and wellness, coincide with my own personal ideals and hopes for my generation as well as those to come. 

 

 

Raising money to support NAMI helps the organization to educate the public about mental illness, work to eliminate the stigma connected to mental illness, and to advocate for increased funding for research into the cause and treatment of mental illness.
