Douglas City Manager Charlie Davis received the Harold F. Holtz Municipal Training Institute’s Certificate of Recognition during the Georgia Municipal Association’s (GMA) Cities United Summit in January. The annual summit brings together city officials from across the state to focus on important municipal issues before the Georgia General Assembly. The primary goal of the conference is to ensure that mayors, council members and key staff are informed on the Association’s policy priorities and prepared to advocate for the interest of cities.

To receive a Certificate of Recognition, a city official must complete a minimum of 42 hours of training, including at least 18 hours from a list of required courses from the Newly Elected Officials Institute and the Robert E. Knox, Jr. Municipal Leadership Institute.

“This is an outstanding achievement,” said GMA Executive Director Larry Hanson. “We commend City Manager Davis for this accomplishment and for the dedication he’s shown in using this valuable resource to become a more effective city official.”

The Harold F. Holtz Municipal Training Institute is a cooperative effort of GMA and the University of Georgia’s Carl Vinson Institute of Government and offers a nationally recognized training series for elected city officials. The Georgia Municipal Association is a voluntary, non-profit organization that provides legislative advocacy, research, training, employee benefit and technical consulting services to its 537 member cities.  For more information about GMA and their benefits offered to Georgia cities, please visit their website, www.gacities.com.
