Mr. Paul Jewell, 94, of Douglas, Georgia died Monday at Harborview Satilla after an extended illness. He was born in Coffee County to the late Jack Jackson Jewell and Daisy Joyner Jewell.
Mr. Jewell had made Waycross his home for the majority of his life. He was a veteran of the United States Army, serving his country during the Korean War. He cut hair during his time in the Army, and that transitioned into a career, where he worked as a barber in Georgia, Florida, North Carolina and South Carolina. Mr. Jewell was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. He enjoyed fishing, hunting, traveling and going to church. He loved his family and any time he was able to spend with them. Along with his parents, he was preceded in death by two sons, Billie Jo Jewell and Richard Jewell; one brother, Lester Jewell; and four sisters, Fannie Berkett, Maggie Smith, Annie Bell Musgrove, and Myrtice Exum.
Mr. Jewell is survived by his wife, Sarah Jewell of Douglas; his daughter, Lynelle Davis and her husband Benny of Waycross; three sons, Randy Jewell and his wife Rhonda of Douglas, Ricky Jewell and his wife Penny of McDonough, Georgia, Rodney Jewell of Waycross; two step-daughters, Valerie Urreta of Pooler, Georgia, Darlene Carr and her husband Mike of Atlanta, Georgia; eighteen grandchildren; twenty-three great grandchildren; two sisters, Bonnell Wilson of Waycross, Vernell Wells of Waycross, and numerous nieces, nephews and other relatives.
A funeral service was held at 2:00 p.m., Friday at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. Burial will follow in Royals Church Cemetery in Kirkland, Georgia
