Tyler Reid Spell, the manager of the Dollar General store in Denton, has been arrested and charged with theft by taking after allegedly stealing over $40,000 in deposits from the store.

On Friday, February 10, 2023 Jeff Davis County deputies and investigators were dispatched to the Dollar General store in Denton.  Officers met with a loss prevention officer who had been contacted by the cash audit department of Dollar General.  The information states that from January 11, 2023-February 9, 2023, no deposits were made to the bank from the store.  The missing cash deposits were estimated to be over $40,000.

The loss prevention manager met with Spell to investigate this issue prior to officers arriving. According to the loss prevention manager, Spell admitted taking the deposits and she also provided a written statement confessing to taking around $40,000. Spell still had two of the deposits at her home and an additional cash deposit dated February 9, 2023 was located in the safe waiting for deposit.

Investigators recovered the two deposits from the residence totaling $2,234.61.  The total amount missing was $42,515.06.

Spell is currently in the Jeff Davis County Jail waiting a bond hearing.
