Mrs. Geneva S. Youngblood, age 90 years old, of Blackshear, Ga. (formerly of Pearson, Ga.) passed away Wednesday, February 1, 2023, at Harborview Nursing Home in Blackshear, Ga., where she had been living for the past ten years due to her failing health.

She was born in Coffee County, Ga. on November 15, 1932, daughter of Charlie Roberson and Georgiann Leavens Spivey.  Mrs. Geneva made her home in Atkinson County, where she worked as a C.N.A. and a cook at the local restaurants.  She enjoyed reading, watching tv, and was one of the best cooks around, but her most treasured times were spent with friends and family, especially her grandchildren.  Mrs. Geneva attended Franklin Holiness Baptist Church and was preceded in death, along with her parents, by her husband, Dewy Youngblood, 4 brothers:  Bob Spivey, C.R. Spivey, Johnny Edward, and Bud Spivey, 2 sisters: Irene Stevens, and Rose Marie Barnes, daughter, Norma Elaine Hersey, grandson, Michael Starling, son-in-law, Mike Starling, and great-grandson, Madyson Michelle Neil.

Survivors Include:

3 Daughters:  Brenda Starling of Blackshear, Ga.

Jackie Simmons of Blackshear, Ga.

2 Sons:  Robert Michael “Pete” Hersey of Blackshear, Ga.

Gary O’Neal Hersey of Virginia

Step-son:  Darrell Youngblood and wife Harriet of Millwood, Ga.

Special Nieces:  Cynda Carver, Wendy Spikes, and Trish Gillis

8 Grandchildren, 14 Great-Grandchildren, 7 Great-Great Grandchildren, and several nieces, nephews, and other relatives also survive.

Funeral services for Mrs. Youngblood were held on Saturday, February 4, 2023, at 1:00 P.M. at Relihan Funeral Home Chapel with Elder Donald Hersey and Rev. Harold Barnes officiating. Special musical selections included, “The Robe”, “He’ll Hold My Hand”, and “Do You Know How It Feels?”  all rendered by The Barnes Sisters, with Wendy Spikes on the keyboard.  The interment followed in Mt. Pleasant Cemetery.

Serving as active pallbearers were:  Josh Griffin, Kevin Spivey, Kyle Spivey, Jordan Gillis, Jake Clough, Chris Clough, and Ethan Carver.
