Ms. Maxine Smith, age 79, of Pearson, Ga. passed away Thursday, February 2, 2023, at Coffee Regional Medical Center in Douglas, Ga., following an extended illness.  

 

 

She was born in Pearson on September 22, 1943, daughter of Jesse Sr. and Mildred Williams Smith.  Ms. Maxine made her home here in Atkinson County, where she raised her family and was a makeup representative with the Avon Company for almost 50 years.  She was lovingly known in the community as the “Avon Lady.”  Ms. Maxine enjoyed dancing, socializing, and keeping in touch with family and friends.  She attended Sunnyside Baptist Church and is preceded in death by her parents Mr. Jesse and Mildred Smith, brother, Neil Williams, Grand Daughter, Summer Pittman, and Son-In-Law, Jerry Riggins.

 

 

Survivors Include:

 

 

Daughter:  Scarlett Riggins of Pearson, Ga.

 

 

2 Sons:  Curtis Leonne Pittman, Jr., and wife Amanda of Axson, Ga.

Jesse Leland Griffis and wife Colleen of Pearson, Ga.

 

 

2 Brothers:  Gerald Williams and wife Genie of Hernando, Ms.

Jesse S. Smith, Jr. and wife Sue of Greenwood, S.C.

 

 

Sister:  Merlene Counts of Waycross, Ga.

 

 

Grandchildren:  Dusty Roberson and wife Taylor, Johnny Riggins and wife Caitlyn, Shawn Riggins and wife Marlene, Kandy Batten, Curt Griffis and wife Kayla, Skyler Pittman, Peyton Pittman, and Peylyn Pittman.

 

 

Great-Grandchildren:  Beck Riggins, Case Riggins, Elijah Riggins, Nataleigh Trace Riggins, Tristen Campbell, Michael Roberson, Mahalie Batten, Makalie Batten, Brayden Capps, Sophia Griffis, Coleman James Griffis, Balie Roberson, and Addy Roberson.

 

 

Several nieces, nephews, and other relatives also survive.

 

 

Funeral services for Mrs. Smith were held on Monday, February 6, 2023, at 2:00 P.M. at Wesley Chapel Holiness Baptist Church with Rev. Teddy Burch officiating. Special musical selections included, “How Great Thou Art”, “Precious Memories” and “Feel Like Traveling On” rendered by cd.  The interment followed in Royals Cemetery.

 

 

Serving as active pallbearers were:  Johnny Riggins, Shawn Riggins, Leonne Pittman, Skyler Pittman, Curt Griffis, and Dusty Roberson.  Serving as honorary pallbearer was Peyton Pittman.

 

 

Relihan Funeral Home was in charge of the arrangements.
