Bagwell, Merritt bring home first place finishes in Tift track meet

The Coffee Trojans track team traveled to Tift County High School to participate in the Anthony Bateman Invitational 2023. The Blue Devils hosted 19 schools from across middle and South Georgia. 

 

 

Senior Kate Merritt posted two first place finishes in the 1600 meter run (5:34.97) and 3200 meter run (11:57.51). 

 

 

Freshman Josie Lott scored a sixth place finish in the 1600 meter run with a time of 6:26.72. 

 

 

The Lady Trojan 400 meter relay team of Breana Griffin, Iyani Johnson, Janiya Brown and Jamiah Hudson ran a 53.17 seconds for an eighth place finish. 

 

 

Blair Paulk, Iyani Johnson, Janiya Brown and Ja’Maria Harvey competed in the 800 meter relay to finish fourth with a time of 1:50.52. 

 

 

The 3200 meter relay team of Allison Rivas, Ainsley Myers, Mariah Hurtado and Josie Lott finished sixth in 12:58.79. 

 

 

Tyrese Woodgett battled his way to a seventh place finish with a time of 11.40 seconds in the 100 meter dash. He also competed in the 200 meter dash for a fourth place finish with a time of 22.76 seconds. 

 

 

Senior Nevin Swanson competed in the 800 meter run (2:10.59) for a new personal record and a fifth place finish. He also competed in the 1600 meter run for a season-best time of 4:49.74. 

 

 

Will Bagwell earned a first place finish in the 3200 meter run finishing in 10:05.29. 

 

 

43.32 seconds is all the time it took for the 400 meter relay team of Tyriq Edwards, Travis Adams, Anthony Paulk and Tyrese Woodgett for a second place finish. 

 

 

KJ Smith jumped in the triple jump clearing 40 feet and 3.75 inches for third place finish. 

 

 

The track team is back in action Thursday afternoon for a home meet that will also serve as senior recognition. The first events begin at 3:30.
