Coffee Regional Medical Center (CRMC) has joined other area hospitals, healthcare organizations, and the LifeLink Foundation to create a donation-friendly community through the Hospital Organ Donation Campaign. This national initiative is sponsored by the Health Resources and Services Administration (HRSA) of the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services. This initiative challenges healthcare organizations to educate employees, patients, visitors, and the community about the crucial need for organ, eye, and tissue donation and give them opportunities to sign up as donors. Through this campaign, more than 443,000 people have added their names to state registries.

In honor of April being National Donate Life Month, Coffee Regional plans to educate our staff, patients, other hospital guests, and the extended community on the critical need for organ, eye, and tissue donation. This year’s theme, “Make a Splash for National Donate Life Month,” was inspired by the natural world of a pond coming to life in the spring.

“Organ donation is very important to all of us at Coffee Regional. Our caregivers work to ensure procedures are in place so those wishing to be organ donors can do so. Donate Life Month is the perfect time to remind our community just how important organ donation is,” said Vicki Lewis, President & CEO of Coffee Regional.

Coffee Regional has several events planned throughout the month to create awareness and educate our staff, visitors, and community. Each Tuesday will be “Taco Tuesday” to “taco-bout” organ donation. An information table will be set up in the CRMC cafeteria with information about the benefits of becoming an organ donor. Additionally, a flag-raising ceremony was held on Friday, March 31st, to raise our Donate Life flag to fly proudly above our hospital for the month of April. The community is encouraged to also keep an eye on our Facebook page where we will share facts and information about organ donation throughout the month.

Signing up to be an organ donor is easy. Please, take a few minutes today to add your name to the organ donor registry and help save a life. Visit www.DonateLifeGeorgia.org to sign up. It is a great feeling to know that your selfless efforts may someday save a life.
