Ms. Wanell Hersey Heape, age 80 of Jacksonville, FL passed away on Tuesday, March 28th, 2023 at St. Vincent’s Riverside Hospital surrounded by her loved ones. She was born in Douglas, GA on August 21, 1942 to her late parents: William Roe Hersey and Vivian Murray Hersey. She is also preceded in death by her son: Herman “Sam” Heape; 3 brothers: Frederick “Buddy” Hersey, James Roe Hersey and Chester Allen Hersey. 

 

 

Ms. Heape was always a light. You could always find her at her church (RISE Church) on Sunday’s worshipping God. She was a proud mother, sister, grandmother and great-grandmother who always put her family’s and friend’s needs first. 

 

 

Survivors include: 

 

 

2 Children: Melissa Harvey-Whitehead (David) and son: Kevin Harvey 

 

 

1 Granddaughter: Alyssa Heape-Spikes (Philip) 

 

 

1 Grandson: Hunter Whitehead 

 

 

1 Great Grandson: Kason Spikes 

 

 

4 Siblings: David (Barbara), Paul (Beth) and Howard (Dianne); Deloris Strickland (JB) and Linda Gillis (Bouncer). 

 

 

Viewing services in Jacksonville will be held Friday, March 31, 2023 starting at 6:00 PM at Hardage-Giddens Memorial-Riverside Funeral Home. 

 

 

Funeral services will be held Monday, April 3, 2023 with visitation from 2:00-3:00 PM and service following at 3:00 PM by Rev. H. P. Murray at Jowers Chapel Holiness Baptist Church. Interment will follow in Roxie Mae Cemetery. 

 

 

Active Pallbearers for the service will be: Blake Hersey, William Hersey, Michael Hersey, Matthew Hersey, Ricky Hersey, Hunter Whitehead, Eddie Creamer and Barry Whitley. 

 

 

Hardage-Giddens Memorial-Riverside Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements in Jacksonville, FL 

 

 

Ricketson Funeral Home is in charge of local arrangements.
