Officers from the Douglas Police Department are investigating an incident that allegedly involved a hit and run accident and a vehicle shooting that took place on April 6, 2023, involving teen drivers, an unknown shooter(s), and conflicting stories about exactly what happened.

According to an incident report obtained from the Douglas Police Department, an officer responded to a shots fired call on Danielle Avenue on April 6 around 11:40 p.m. As he arrived in the area, he noticed a dark gray Yukon leaving. As the officer observed the Yukon leaving, another call came from Roper Street saying that another vehicle had been struck by a vehicle while shots were being fired.

The officer headed that way and spoke to the driver, a teenager, who said that he (along with a couple of passengers), had been at the park on Frank Jackson Circle near Tina Avenue in a Nissan Altima. As he was backing out of the park, a Yukon struck the Altima.

The report states that the driver said that “a lot of people jumped out and were pointing guns at him so he drove forward.” Then, according to the report, a Honda appeared, drove around the Altima, and fired three shots. One of the bullets hit the Altima. The driver then headed to Roper Street. There were two others in the Altima; the report states that neither one would give their names or make statements.

The officer continued the investigation, eventually speaking with three individuals who were in other vehicles. One of the individuals, who was also a teen, was the driver of the Yukon, according to the report. One of the occupants of the Yukon said he didn’t hear or see anything. The other occupant said the Altima backed into them then left. He didn’t know anything about the car being shot, the report says. The alleged driver of the Yukon also said that the Altima backed into the Yukon when they were driving down Tina Avenue. The driver also didn’t know anything about shots being fired, according to the report.

Officers at Tina Avenue and Frank Jackson Circle found two 9mm shell casings and one bullet. These items have been sent to the GBI Crime Lab for further investigation.

The report closes with the following statement: “At this time I am unable to determine who is at fault in the accident or what happened with the shooting.”

No one was injured and no arrests have been made. The Douglas Police Department is continuing to investigate the incident.
