Friday morning, officers from the Douglas Police Department, Coffee County EMA/Fire Department, and other agencies searched the Seventeen Mile River and the surrounding woods at the West Green Highway bridge for Maria Diaz, who has been missing since February.

During the course of the investigation, officers identified several areas if interest that Diaz was close to near the time of her disappearance. Investigators found nothing of interest on Friday. This is only one of several areas they intend to search in the coming days and weeks.

Diaz is a Hispanic female and is described as 5’3″ tall with brown hair and brown eyes.  She was last seen on February 7, 2023.  During the investigation, her last known location was determined to be on the 900 block of East Ethel Street in Douglas.

The investigation is still on going and any one with any information is ask to contact the Douglas Police Department at 912-384-2222, the tips line at 912-260-3600. You can also contact Lead Investigator Brittany O’Steen at BOsteen@cityofdouglas.com or through the Douglas Police Department’s Facebook page.
