Allen Eugene Harless was born to Aubrey and Helen Harless on March 19th, 1949, in Shelbyville, Illinois.  

 

 

During his school years he participated in 4-H and other clubs.  He graduated from Shelbyville High School in 1967. In 1971 he graduated from The University of Illinois with a degree in Animal Husbandry. While a student there he was a member of Alpha Chi Rho fraternity. He was also preceded in death by his son: George Kirkland, III.

 

 

After moving to Georgia with Swift he met and married his wife of 47 years, Ola Winters Kirkland Harless. The years that followed he joined and helped to expand Winters Syrup Company, a family-owned business.  During this time, he started doing photography out of his garage as a hobby, later buying The Gallery of Photography and growing it into the preeminent studio in Douglas for many years. Additionally, he opened PostNet and Sears of Douglas and Waycross. He was a member of the Douglas Exchange Club and served as the treasurer of Lone Hill Church for many years. After a brief illness he passed away on April 13th, 2023. 

 

 

In addition to his wife, he leaves 5 children to cherish his memory: Nora Meeks (Tom), Chris Kirkland, Cynthia Merritt (Andy), Elizabeth Pickerall,  (Alan). 15 Grandchildren, 23 Great-grandchildren. 1 sister: Ann Ringness (Jeff), 2 brothers: Aubrey Harless Jr. (Kim), Adrian Harless (Barb). Many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. 

 

 

He leaves this world loved by many. 

 

 

A memorial service will be held at Lone Hill Church Sunday April 16th, 2023, at 2:00 p.m. Visitation with the family will be from 1:00-2:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers the family requests donations to Lone Hill Memorial Fund.  Lone Hill Church/ in care of Maggie Crosby 4540 Us Hwy 221 North Douglas, Ga 31533.
