Carson Brinkley, a fugitive wanted in Jeff Davis County, was arrested in Coffee County last week after he allegedly refused to turn himself into Jeff Davis authorities.

Brinkley, of Hazlehurst, had been indicted on charges of interfering with government property, a felony. Citizens had repeatedly called authorities to report him tear up roads, leaving large ruts and holes. When deputies would respond, Brinkley would always be gone.

According to authorities in Jeff Davis County, the county road department spent a lot of time repeatedly filling the ruts and holes allegedly left by Brinkley. Regarding this latest incident, a citizen called the sheriff’s department and reported Brinkley power braking in the middle of the road, creating more holes. That incident led to his indictment by the Jeff Davis County Grand Jury.

Brinkley spoke with Jeff Davis officials and they told him to turn himself into the Jeff Davis County Jail. He agreed to do so and went to the jail. However, he sat outside for a long period of time before leaving. Brinkley later contacted the district attorney’s office in Jeff Davis County and asked officials if he had any warrants against him. He was told that he did. He then hung up immediately.

Last Wednesday, Jeff Davis deputies learned that Brinkley was at his girlfriend’s house in Coffee County. They requested assistance from the Coffee County Sheriff’s Office in locating him. They went to the home and knocked on the door but no one answered the door. Brinkley eventually called a Jeff Davis investigator on the scene. He eventually came out of the home, at which point he was arrested and transported to the Jeff Davis County Jail.

Brinkley remains in custody. He is expected to have a bond hearing later this month.
