Douglas police officers are still looking for the suspect in a Tuesday afternoon shooting that took place on Mark Hanna Street in Douglas.
Around 12:30 p.m., officers responded to a shooting on Mark Hanna, just a few blocks from the George Washington Carver Freshman Academy. The victim had been shot twice — once in the back and once in the leg. He was reportedly sitting in a vehicle at the time of the shooting and was shot at least once through the window. The shooter fled the scene.
When emergency personnel arrived, the victim was sitting on the front porch of a home. His injuries were not life-threatening.
According to investigators, the victim stated that he did not see the person who shot him. However, officers were able to get a description of the shooter and they are currently looking for him.
The freshman campus was placed on a soft lockdown and extra officers were immediately dispatched to the school as added security. Those officers were stationed outside of the school building and inside as well. There was never any indication that students were in danger; the shooter did not flee in the direction of the school.
The investigation is ongoing. The victim is expected to make a full recovery.
