The month of May got off to a rocky start for a Nicholls man.
On May 1, Richard Hailey, 38, of Nicholls, was arrested and charged with aggravated stalking and criminal trespass (family violence) after he allegedly violated a temporary protective order (TPO) by visiting his estranged wife’s house.
According to an incident report from the sheriff’s office, Hailey went to his estranged wife’s house on Deer Run Road. Hailey’s wife had a TPO on him. The report states that once Hailey arrived at the house, his wife ran into a room and locked herself inside.
On the way to the house, Hailey had run his truck into a ditch, the report states. In the report, Hailey stated that he was on his way to his sister’s house to return some keys to her. He ran off in the ditch then hitched a ride from a neighbor to his wife’s house. He was there, he said, because his wife had invited him over to sleep for the night. He said she opened the door and let him in.
Hailey’s wife, however, told a different story. The report says that Hailey showed up at the house, banging on the door and crying. She was in the bed with one of her children and locked the door. She only came out when an officer arrived. She said that she didn’t invite him over nor did she open the door to let him in.
Hailey was arrested and charged with aggravated stalking and criminal trespass (family violence). He was taken to the Coffee County Jail where he remains.
