The long arm of the law extends quite a distance. And sometimes those arms are working the same investigation in two different places. Four suspected drug dealers from Coffee County found that out late last week.
Several individuals suspected of being involved in a Douglas area drug dealing operation were recently jailed in Houston County as the Coffee County Drug Unit (CCDU) was conducting its own local investigation. CCDU authorities obtained information that the suspects had sold crack cocaine from a garage adjacent to a Douglas residence and subsequently applied for a search warrant of the area.
Prior to executing the search warrant, however, the CCDU was notified by the Houston County Sheriff’s Office that a vehicle occupied by four individuals (Marquavious Walker, Ronald Barnes III, Sedrick Williams, and Michaela Bussey) from Douglas had been stopped on I-75. During the stop, authorities uncovered over $20,000, a firearm, and suspected drugs.
Three of the four subjects had prior felony arrests in Coffee County.
Walker was charged with possession of a controlled substance and possession of a firearm during the commission of a crime in 2018, as well as aggravated assault in 2020. Barnes was charged with possession of a controlled substance in 2019. Williams was charged with possession of a controlled substance in 2022.
Officers determined that some of the subjects in the vehicle were also suspected of being involved with the residence that was under investigation in Douglas. The search warrant was served at the Douglas residence, and a vehicle registered to one of the subjects in the Houston County traffic stop was discovered parked in the backyard. A firearm was discovered inside the residence. Inside the attached garage, CCDU officials located a large quantity of suspected crack cocaine, a digital scale, and baggies commonly used for packaging drugs.
This investigation is active, and more arrests are expected in the near future involving this case. If you have any information regarding this investigation, or others, please call the Coffee County Sheriff’s Office at (912) 384-4227.
