Jared Roberts grew up in Broxton and graduated from CCA in Douglas. He claims he knew before graduating high school that he would become an attorney. When asked what inspired him to choose this career path, he states, “I always thought the rule of law was a good thing. It’s like being a lifelong learner.” According to Jared, what really sets his job apart from others is the idea of going into the office and doing something new every day.

Jared finished undergrad at UGA in 2004 and law school in December of 2007. After graduating law school, he took the bar exam in February of 2008 and was sworn in just a few months later on June 30. According to Jared, he immediately started working as a public defender in Coffee County and did so until 2012 when he decided it was time to open his own law firm, J.L. Roberts Law, LLC.

On top of being an attorney and the head basketball coach for the CCA boys varsity basketball team, Jared was appointed by Gov. Brian Kemp as Solicitor General in May of this year. Jared states he filled out the application, went through the interview process, then Gov. Kemp called informing him he had been chosen for the position.

According to Jared, along with other responsibilities, a Solicitor General’s main role is being responsible for the prosecution of misdemeanors in State Court. After getting the news that the job was his, Jared says, “It was a mixture of emotions. Definitely some excitement. It’s a lot of responsibility. I was thinking, okay, what comes next?”

Jared claims everyone in his life has been “really helpful and supportive” of this new journey. With having his law firm, he states his employees have been very positive to help keep everything running smoothly as he transitions into this new position. “We are just juggling new things, figuring out scheduling, and making sure everybody is on the same page,” says Jared when speaking of how his first few weeks as Solicitor General have gone.

Jared and his wife, Katie, have four children: Arabelle, 14; Bo, 12; Mae, 10; and Zeke, 8.

This next step is uncharted territory but Jared is excited to see what new opportunities this chapter will bring.
