According to a recent press release from Governor Brian Kemp, the City of Douglas and Coffee County are among the Georgia communities that will receive funding from the State of Georgia for projects that improve parks, recreation facilities, sidewalks, and healthy food access that were disproportionately impacted by the COVID-19 pandemic. The City of Douglas and Coffee County will receive $4,577,848.00 in grant funding to use toward the rehabilitation of Huckaby Complex, Roundtree Park, and the soccer field.

“We are appreciative of Governor Kemp and the General Assembly for working together during the pandemic to help Georgia communities,” says Mayor Tony Paulk.  “Their commitment to keeping our economy moving is undeniable when they invest grant monies into our local community and recreation facilities.”

Plans for Huckaby Complex rehabilitation include rehab of the concession stand, rehab of softball fields, rehab of field lighting, installation of new bleachers, replacement of all field fencing, repair or replacement of sidewalks, rehab of a shelter to protect participants and families; and the rehab of restrooms or replacement of restrooms. Roundtree Park will receive rehabilitation of bathrooms, replacement of dugouts, replacement of lighting, replacement of drainage, replacement of playground, replacement of picnic tables, and repair or replacement of sidewalks. The soccer field will receive numerous surface improvements relating to the fields, future concessions pad, installation of fencing, lighting, bleachers and player benches, goals, scoreboards, netting and backstops, signage, and landscaping.

For more information about the upcoming rehabilitation projects at the fields and park, please contact the Parks and Recreation Department at (912)384-5978.
