Unity Park is getting a facelift.
The City of Douglas has been awarded funding from the Georgia Department of Natural Resources through their Land and Water Conservation Fund. This funding is provided for the acquisition, development, and rehabilitation of outdoor recreation lands and facilities.
The City of Douglas will receive $278,000.00 from this grant funding to use towards improvements for Unity Park. In addition to the grant award, the City of Douglas has committed to investing $293,000 in this project for a total estimated cost of completion of $571,000.
Plans for the improvements to Unity Park include the addition of ADA picnic tables, ADA playground equipment, various sidewalk repairs, the addition of a Wellness Park with various equipment for exercise, the conversion of existing baseball fields into Little League play fields, and the refurbishing of the existing basketball court. These improvements will welcome citizens of all ages, backgrounds, and accessibility needs.
