On June 11, an alleged domestic dispute erupted when the female victim playfully hit the suspect, Gregory Tavoin Bryant, 25, with a plastic bottle while they were watching TV.
According to a sheriff’s department report, the victim stated that she hit Bryant with the bottle “in a playful manner” while they were in the bedroom, which allegedly set him off. The report says that he slammed her to the floor and began punching her in the head and face with his fist. She started screaming and Bryant let her up.
The report then says that she headed to the living room to leave the home. She was also attempting to call 911. Bryant then allegedly snatched her phone, closed the door and locked it. The victim was yelling at Bryant to let her leave. He then told her to be quiet and come back to the bedroom. Bryant ended up grabbing her arms and dragging her down the hallway, the report says. She bit his hands and he finally let her go.
The victim kicked the back door open and fled to a neighbor’s home. She told the neighbor to call 911. Bryant followed the victim next door. The neighbor let the victim inside and locked the door. Deputies arrived and the victim requested EMS to evaluate her injuries. They came the scene and treated her injuries but she was not transported for further treatment.
Bryant was arrested and charged with battery, kidnapping, and obstructing/hindering persons making an emergency phone call. He was transported to the Coffee County Jail and has not been released.
