Douglas police officers arrested a 25-year-old man on a variety of charges, including aggravated assault, after he allegedly held a knife to a female victim during a domestic dispute that occurred on June 14.

The suspect, identified as Jamarcus Renardo McConnal, hit the victim in the head with a shower curtain rod, held a knife to her person, and threatened to slash the tires of her car, according to the victim. Allegedly, the argument began over money.

The incident report states that the victim and McConnal were arguing about money. He went to the bathroom to take a shower. She went into the bathroom, the report states, and McConnal began throwing objects and grabbing her. The report says that he hit her in the head with a shower curtain rod, which caused her to have a seizure.

McConnal stated that they were indeed arguing in the bathroom when the shower curtain rod fell and hit the victim in the head. She had the seizure and he picked her up and placed her on the bed. After she recovered, she said that she was taking the children (two were present while the incident occurred) and leaving. The victim owed McConnal money, he said, and she hadn’t given him his money. The report says that he admitted to threatening to slash her tires so she couldn’t leave but he never pointed the knife at her.

The investigating officer went into the bathroom and saw that it was, as the report says, “very messy.” The officer also noticed a spot on the victim’s dress that appeared to be where a pointed object had been pressed against it. The officer asked the victim if that’s where McConnal placed the knife and she said it was.

McConnal was arrested and charged with two counts of cruelty to children, battery (family violence, first offense), and aggravated assault. He was transported to the Coffee County Jail and has since been released.
