On June 28, 2023 around 6:20 a.m., the area of South Gaskin Avenue and Pinecrest Drive erupted in gunfire, according to a press release from the Douglas Police Department

The release states that officers were dispatched to the area of South Gaskin Avenue and Pinecrest Drive in reference to shots being fired. Upon the arrival, officers determined that a residence and a vehicle had been shot multiple times. The residence that sustained gunfire damage contained several individuals inside and one person outside the residence at the time of the shooting.

Officers collected statements and evidence near the scene and were able to get a description of the vehicle along with a tag number. The vehicle was located a short time unoccupied on Bryan Street Circle. Two individuals returned to the vehicle and attempted to leave the location. Officers initiated a traffic stop and found the occupants to be Jaquiez Young and Isaiah Wright. During the traffic stop a gun and phone were thrown out of the vehicle. Officers saw this and immediately recovered both items. Both Young and Wright were arrested and transported to the Coffee County Law Enforcement Center.

Investigators obtained search warrants for the apartment Young and Wright came out of and the vehicle. As a result, multiple firearms, drugs and drug-related items were seized.

Young and Wright were arrested and are currently being held in the Coffee County Jail. They face numerous charges to include: Possession of a Firearm with an Altered Serial Number, Felony Tampering with Evidence, Possession of a Firearm by First Offenders Probationer, Possession of Marijuana, and eight counts of Aggravated Assault.

The investigation is ongoing, other charges and arrests could follow as more evidence and information becomes available. The DPD appreciates the cooperation and assistance from the community and other agencies in this case.
