The Douglas-Coffee County Chamber of Commerce hosted a ribbon cutting on Friday, June 23, 2023 in honor of the grand opening of Interstate Credit Union. Broadcast South and the Chick-Fil-A Douglas food trailer were in attendance to help kickoff the celebration as the community gathered to welcome Interstate Credit Union to Douglas. Open Monday through Friday, Interstate Credit Union is located at 1401 Bowens Mill Rd SE.

Interstate Credit Union is a not-for-profit, member-owned cooperative, serving greater Southeast Georgia since 1968. Along with the Douglas branch, Interstate Credit Union also has locations in Jesup, Baxley, Brunswick, Hazlehurst, and Midway, welcoming businesses, entities, and persons who live or work nearby to become members.

“We are proud to have opened our Douglas branch, and to be a part of the growth and development of the Coffee County community,” says Stacie B. Branch, Interstate Credit Union’s President and CEO. “We appreciate everyone that celebrated with us at our grand opening and ribbon cutting, and encourage the community to come see how they can experience a better way to bank with Interstate Credit Union.”

In 1968, the employees of Interstate Paper Mill chartered a new credit union to serve the employees of the mill. Mr. John Boatright, operated the credit union from his dining room table from 1968 to 1984.  Now, 55 years later, Interstate Credit Union is proud to be the largest and strongest credit union in Southeast Georgia, recently earning the League of Southeastern Credit Union’s 2022 Georgia Credit Union of the Year.

“Interstate Credit Union has been committed to supporting our communities for over 50 years,” says Angie Sturgill, Interstate Credit Union’s Marketing Officer. “We believe your investment in us deserves to be returned and that’s why Interstate Credit Union offers lower interest rates and higher dividends on deposits. Staying true to the Credit Union’s philosophy of ‘people helping people,’ Interstate Credit Union is proud to support our community’s schools and non-profit organizations through scholarships and other donations. We are excited to get more involved with supporting the Coffee County community!”
