Ms. Elva Ruth Tanner Butler, age 80 of Axson, GA passed away Friday afternoon, July 7, 2023, at her residence following an extended illness. 

 


Ms. Butler was born November 14, 1942 to the late Thomas J. “Tom” Tanner and the late Beadie Idell Guthrie Tanner. Other than her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband: the late Thomas Allison Butler and 5 Siblings: Ralph Tanner, Jane Vincent, Ben Tanner, Mark Tanner and Jonathan Tanner. 

 

 

Ms. Butler was a native of Douglas, GA; however, she and her family had been in the farming business in Atkinson County for many years. She was a member of Stokesville Baptist Church. 

 

 

Survivors include: 

 

 

1 Sister: Bonnie (Dick) Griffis of Axson, GA 

 

 

Several Nieces, Nephews, Cousins and Other Relatives. 

 

 

The family will receive friends Sunday afternoon, July 9, 2023 from 1:00 PM until 2:00 PM. at Stokesville Baptist Church. The funeral service will be Sunday afternoon at 2:00 PM at Stokesville Baptist Church with Bishop Leroy Spivey officiating. The interment will be held on Tuesday morning, July 11, 2023 at 11:00 AM at Stokesville Baptist Church Cemetery. 

 

 

Active Pallbearers for the service will be: Cleeg Mathews, Wade Tanner, Greg Griffis, Lee Johns, Benji Tanner and Tom Tanner. 

 

 

Honorary Pallbearers for the service will be: Cedric Sweat, Irene Sweat, Sarah Rowell, Harvey Vincent, Robert Nipper, Annelle Gillis, Mary Ann Lewis, Kay Pierce, Miguel Gonzalez, Gail Minchew and Mike and Terri Sheffield. 

 

 

Ricketson Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.
