Miss Laverne Dorminey, age 84 of Douglas, GA passed away early Sunday morning, September 3, 2023 at Lakeside Senior Living following an extended illness. Miss Dorminey was born August 12, 1939 to the late Henry Stanton Dorminey and the late Elon Barker Dorminey. She was also preceded in death by 3 Siblings: Osborne Dorminey, Winston Dorminey and Sylvia Ann Dorminey: brother-in-law Joe Burnam and nephew Stan Burnam. 

 

 

Miss Dorminey, a native of Coffee County, GA, had retired as a librarian/teacher in Live Oak, FL. She was a graduate of South Georgia College and Georgia Southern University and earned a Master’s Degree in Library Science from Florida State University. She spent her career as a teacher and librarian in the Suwannee County Educational System and directed the Media Center at the Live Oak First Baptist Church. 

 

 

Survivors include: 

 

 

Sisters: Oveida Burnam of Sylvester, GA 

Gwen Sherwood and husband Art of Lenoir, NC 

 

 

2 Sisters-in-Law: Marchetta Jackson of Casselberry, FL 

Barbara Hodge of Douglas, GA 

 

 

A number of loving nieces, nephews and a host of Great and Great-Great Nieces and Nephews 

 

 

The family will receive friends Saturday morning, September 16, 2023 from 9:00 AM until 10:00 AM at the Chapel of Ricketson Funeral Home. The funeral service will be held Saturday morning, September 16, 2023 at 10:00 AM at the Chapel of Ricketson Funeral Home with the interment to follow in Hebron Cemetery. 

 

 

Active Pallbearers for the service will be: Steve Burnam, Brad Burnam, Billy Burnam, Phil Sherwood, Devin Dorminey and David Dorminey. 

 

 

Ricketson Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.
