Mrs. Vitus Lawrence Stewart Baker, age 101 passed away Thursday evening, August 31, 2023 from natural causes at Lakeside in Douglas, GA. Mrs. Baker was born June 11, 1922 to the late Eudelle Foskey Lawrence and the late Walter Daniel Lawrence of Long Pond, GA. She was one of nine children. 

 

 

Mrs. Baker is preceded in death by her two husbands, Allen Walker Stewart and James Hoyt Baker, and her first born son Walter Stewart, who passed away at the age of 5 years of age of pneumonia and her son, Steve Stewart. 

 

 

Mrs. Baker, a native of Montgomery County, later moved to Douglas. She was a charter member of Morningside Baptist Church. 

 

 

Her children include: Willard “Butch” Stewart and wife Margaret of Gainesville, GA, Linda Wray and husband Larry of Haines City, FL; Clarence Stewart and wife Bari of Douglas, GA, and a daughter-in-law Teresa Stewart of Douglas, GA. Mrs. Baker has 10 grandchildren, 18 Great Grandchildren and 3 Great-Great Grandchildren, along with a number of nieces, nephews, cousins and many friends. 

 

 

The family will receive friends Wednesday morning September 6, 2023, from 9:00 to 10:00 AM at the Chapel of Ricketson Funeral Home. The funeral service will be held Wednesday morning, September 6, 2023 at 10:00 AM at Chapel of Ricketson Funeral Home with Rev. Kevin Bounds officiating. The interment will follow at Walker Cemetery in Mount Vernon, GA. Pallbearers for the service will be: Clint Stewart, Walter Stewart, Aaron Stewart, Tommy Thomas, Guy George and Blake Moore. 

 

 

Ricketson Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.
