Charles ‘Buddy’ Sylvester Wrye, 80

Charles “Buddy” Sylvester Wrye, 80, was born on May 6, 1943. He was born in Millen, Georgia and preceded in death by his parents, Clement and Maurice Wrye as well as his sister, Clementine Saccareccia.  

 

 

On Sunday, September 3rd, 2023, he peacefully took the hand of God and went home to Heaven. Buddy is survived by his wife of 50 years, Barbara, his four children; Charles Wrye (Sandra), Tonya Kirkland (Bruce), Richard Wrye (Erin) and Michelle Appleberg (Brett); his grandchildren, Eric (Katie), Christopher (Megan), Cody, Morgan, and Colin and six great-grandchildren, Emery, Dorian, Kieran, Ronan, Beckett, and Remy.  He was a devoted husband, loving dad, adoring grandfather, loyal friend and will be greatly missed. 

 

 

Buddy attended Amelia Baptist Church in Fernandina Beach, Florida for 23 years.  He loved the Lord, was a devoted servant of God and a faithful church leader.  His dedication, integrity, and passion made him a gracious and humble example for his family and friends.  Buddy’s compassionate nature and quiet influence touched the hearts of many. He had a way of making others feel valued and loved.  

 

 

He had a successful career as a member of management at Fleetwood Mobile Homes for 30+ years.  As he progressed through his career, he traveled and lived in numerous locations.  In the many years, he made many lifelong friends that remained special to him.

 

 

Buddy enjoyed boating, traveling, spending time with family and friends as well as football.  He was an avid Georgia Bulldog fan!  

 

 

Visitation services will be held on Thursday, September 7th, 2023, between 5 PM and 7 PM at Oxley-Heard Funeral Home, located at 1305 Atlantic Avenue, Fernandina Beach, Florida 32034.   

 

 

The funeral service will take place on Friday, September 8th, 2023, at Amelia Baptist Church, located at 961167 Buccaneer Trail, Fernandina Beach, FL. The service will be led by Pastor Neil Helton and Pastor Adam Page.  Following the funeral, a burial service will be held at Bosque Bello Cemetery, located at 1321 N 14th St., Fernandina Beach, FL 32034.

 

 

In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests that you consider making a donation to the “Building Fund” at Amelia Baptist Church in memory of Buddy Wrye. Donations can be made at www.ameliabaptist.org/giving.

 

 

Oxley-Heard Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.
