Douglas resident Michael Wayne Stull, 57, was allegedly shot and killed by his son, Nicholas Maquis Stull, 25, in Olney, Maryland, on Saturday night. After the alleged shooting, Nicholas Stull turned the gun on himself but survived.

Olney is located in the northern portion of Montgomery County, Maryland, about 10 miles north of Washington, D.C.

Michael Stull worked in the city’s Customer Care department at City Hall. According to City Manager Charlie Davis, City Hall will be closed on Monday, October 9, 2023, to mourn Stull’s death. The regularly scheduled city commission meeting Monday night will still take place.

Several news outlets in the Baltimore/Washington, D.C., area have reported on the incident. Michael Stull was in Olney to help his father move back into a house following stroke rehab. The shooting took place in Michael Stull’s father’s home around 8:30 p.m. Saturday night, according to NBC Washington.

When authorities received the initial call, they were told a shooting victim was inside the home. They were also informed that the shooter was still inside and was armed. Officers called in a SWAT team, which entered the home shortly after arriving. According to NBC Washington’s report, they found Michael Stull deceased from a gunshot wound and Nicholas Stull with “a non-life threatening, self-inflicted gunshot wound.”

Nicholas Stull was arrested and charged with first degree murder, second degree assault, and use of a firearm during the commission of a violent crime. He was taken to a hospital for treatment, after which he will be jailed.
